They are made out of solid wood and built to last 100 years, if maintained properly. On the other end of the spectrum, there is MDF board cabinets, which is short for Medium-Density Fiberboard. It's an engineered wood constructed from wood sheets, that get heated, glued, and pressed together. Over the years, MDF cabinets have improved, making them very sturdy and durable. Although they are not as durable as solid wood cabinets, they are a close second. MDF cabinets function the exact same as Solid Wood, and most homeowners can't tell the difference between the two, one cabinets are installed. But the kicker, is the price. MDF Cabinets can sometimes be 50% - 75% cheaper than Solid Wood. Making them a very good option when looking for affordable cabinets. Couple that along with the fact that they're normally readily available, you'll find people have no problem going with them for their choice of cabinets for their new kitchen. The main drawback is that they mainly come in, white, grey, or dark brown color. While solid wood, custom cabinets are painted any color of your choice.
